First thing I did when I got back into Vs was take advantage of the cheap prices on boxes and bought a box of Marvel Legends. I had planned to get up with a couple of guys from my old hobby league and draft it, but my old pals were too busy to get up with me, and I can’t hold onto a box of cards for too long before I just have to open it up.
So I invited my friend Ben over and we each took six packs and tried to make some sealed decks to battle each other with. My deck was all over the place it was mostly Fantastic Four, but also had some X-men and one or two Doom characters in there. I had a Deal with the Devil and Strange Bed Fellows are whatever they call the Team up for Doom and X-men these days. Whenever doing sealed or draft in Vs. I always try to take any card or character that says draw a card. The other funny thing about my deck was a cracked Luke Cage, Hero for Hire and Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd. Sounds kind of silly but I was thinking why not try to stall to 8 and steal the initiative with Surfer. I accomplish this I did some interesting things. I played Valeria Richards, Child of Light and Darkness, Invisible Woman, Walking on Air, Invisible Woman, First Lady of the Fantastic Four and Franklin Richards, Child of the Cosmos, trying to gain as much life as possible, I was also blessed with two Burn Rubbers, to help stem the bleeding. Remarkably the two games we played I made it to 8 and stole the initiative, sadly I also had to under drop both games missed my seven drop in one of them, and was always trying to come from behind on 8. Other interesting tidbits I learned from these games is how important flight is in limited, I had like every Fantastic Four member on my team except for the one that flies, Johnny Storm.
I’ve come to the conclusion that we my friend and I opened the wrong packs, he got the six that I should have been playing and vice versa. He cracked two Dr. Doom Diabolic Geniuses a fervent research and a bunch of army Doom characters. I would have loved to play with those cards. My friend hating Dr. Doom as a character left all those cards on the sidelines and instead ran a Marvel Knights, Fantastic Four deck, that punished me both games with She-Hulk, Single Green Lawyer, that card is a beast in limited.
I had a blast cracking this box with my friends and playing the games, I got some cards I needed like Sneak Attack, but a lot of cards that avoided me the first time around cracking Legends did it again like To Me My X-men and Force Field Projection.
We have already done another sealed with a Legions box, which will be written up for another day and in the future we plan to do DC Origins, Infinite Crisis, Marvel Evolution and Marvel Universe. With boxes being this cheap its win-win, and I’m getting to experience VS limited something I didn’t get to do much when the game was thriving.
